A public lecture, organized by the Research and Knowledge Management Office, was held here in Addis Ababa at St. Mary’s University Multi-purpose Hall, on January 25, 2019. The interactive lecture was delivered by Dr Aberra Molla, who developed Function Key software in the 1980s in the USA. Currently, his GeezEdit App is widely used today by Smart Phones and computers, and his patented software is used by Ethiopians here at home and in the diaspora. At the event, he stated that his ModEth program has made it easier for any of the languages spoken in Ethiopia in writing. The problems related to the drawbacks of Geez sounds in expressing the sounds of some of the languages in Ethiopia have been solved by Dr Aberra, who has already earned four patents in the USA and three in Ethiopia. His inspirational lecture was attended by Computing Science students and other members of the campus community.
