A week-long training was given to Englsih Access Microscholarship Program teachers and coordinators by the US Embassy Addis Ababa from February 03 – 07, 2020 at Sarem International Hotel. The training, which brought four Access providers together, focused on how Project Based Learning could be applied to teach English. Cultural Attaché Carmelia Macfoy opened the training and expressed her best wished for fruitful deliberation during the week.
Dr Rochelle Keogh, from Arkansas University based in the USA, assisted by Patrice Jones, English Language Fellow at Jimma University, facilitated the workshop, which was very practical and engaging. Participants identified seven social issues which could be used as topics for the PBL in the Access classes, selected and organized materials to implement the projects and presented their plans on the basis of which feedback was given to enrich each project.
Following Wondimalem Telila’s, PAS staff at the Embassy, closing remarks, certificates were handed out by Patrice Jones at the end of the workshop. 29 teachers who represented four Access providers – Bahir Dar University, Jimma University, St. John School and St. Mary’s University – took part in the training. St. Mary’s University was represented by Atlabachew Getaye (PhD), Getachew Asrat, Misganaw Solomon (PhD), Tamrat Lemma and Tekalign Zewdie.
