SMU Hosts the 10th National Open and Distance Learning Seminar

St Mary’s University held the 10th National Open & Distance Learning Seminar on 20th August 2022 at Multipurpose Hall, Undergraduate Campus, SMU. This year’s seminar was conducted under the theme, “Open and Distance Learning Transitions to the Digital Age” and was aimed at promoting innovation, the culture of knowledge transfer among academicians, researchers, development agents and practitioners on issues related to open and distance learning.

The Seminar was opened by a welcoming speech by Ato Tsegaye Gebissa, Acting Vice President for College of Open and Distance Learning. In his opening remarks, Ato Tsegaye thanked all who played different roles, i.e., paper presenters and the organizing team for their dedication toward the realization of the Seminar.

Three research papers (all from St. Mary’s University) were presented and discussed at the Seminar. The papers presented at the Seminar covered different topics: Examination Administration Practices in CODL of SMU; Satisfaction Survey on Undergraduate Distance Students of SMU; and Digital and Social Media Usage Practices and Challenges among Distance Learners in selected HEIs in Addis Ababa. 

 

The presentations were followed by Question and Answer sessions, which made the Seminar very lively and added much value to the papers.

The papers presented at the Seminar will be published in the Proceedings as has been the case for the last nine years.

Finally, closing remarks were made by Senait Getahun, Director, Research and Knowledge Management Office of SMU, who appreciated and thanked the participants, paper presenters and the organizers who contributed their share for the realization of the Seminar. She also reminded the participants that St. Mary’s will organize its 14th Multidisciplinary Seminar on August 30, 2022, and invited all to attend the event.
